At the HERE Office in Berlin, we have a gym and men and women's saunas in the locker rooms. The sauna is turned on by request, which is sent via email. We set out to solve several problems:
1. If someone has requested to have the sauna turned on, I want to be able to know from the front locker area of the locker room, without having to go back to the sauna area and open the door.
2. I want to know whenever the sauna is on so that if I feel like it, I can rent a towel from the reception and opportunistically jump in there.
3. If I have requested that the sauna be turned on, I'd like to be able to go to a web page and check the temperature before heading up there.
4. Additionally, we will gather data which might tell us something about the energy efficiency and rate of use of the sauna.
A future feature would be a button near the lockers which would send an email to the reception requesting the sauna to be turned on so that the sauna would be hot after your work out in the gym.
